I was delighted to receive an email today from our supplier of Equilibrium jewellery. It was delivering the amazing news that sales of their Poppy jewellery raised £24,325 in 2018. Since the Poppy Collection was introduced in 2016, 50p from each piece sold has been donated to UK Veterans Charities and in total a huge £75,000 has now been donated.
Last years total of £24,325 will be split equally between BLESMA and Scottys Little Soldiers. Both charities support UK Service men and women, this outstanding result will make a real difference to the lives of many people.
I feel really proud that Sassy Spirit has been able to play a small part in supporting such amazing fundraising. I was particularly concerned last year to read so many negative posts on Social Media discouraging people from buying Poppies that were not part of the British Legion scheme. The work they do is 1st Class but there are smaller charities that need support to and both BLESMA and Scottys Little Soldiers are just that.
Did you know that Scottys Little Solidiers is a charity dedicated to helping bereaved British forces children by way of Christmas parties, counselling and holidays? For anyone to lose a family member whilst serving their country is hard but it must be so much harder to comprehend if you are a child. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why HRH Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex chose this charity as one of the seven to benefit from charitable donations made to them as wedding gifts. This charity is still very small though and therefore this donation will make a massive difference to them.
BLESMA is equally deserving, they help all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
